Happening Ecumenical Statement of
Faith
We
believe:
In one God,
eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, John 4:24, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Humankind was
created to have fellowship with God, but because of sin is now separated from
God and in need of forgiveness. (Genesis 3:1-24, Romans 5:12-18, Romans 8:3-4,
1 John 1:8,)
God offers
forgiveness for sin through His Son Jesus Christ. His death on the cross was
the necessary sacrifice. (John 3:16, Philippians 2:8)
We are saved
from eternal separation from God when we confess our sins, accept God’s
forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to be Lord of our lives. (Acts 3:19, Romans 10:9, 1 John 1:9)
We are
commanded in scripture to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This happens as we
surrender our will to God’s and ask Him to direct and empower our lives. (John 3:5-8, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38, Ephesians
1:13-14)
When we accept
God’s grace through Jesus Christ, the Spirit of Christ comes to live in our
hearts by faith. (Romans 8:10, 1 Corinthians 3:16)
As God’s people
we are commanded to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations."
We joyfully share the good news of God’s gospel to all of those God brings to
our lives. (Matthew 28:19-20)
All scripture
is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and
for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12)
